I bought a puppy from them and that is only because he was on sale and he looked almost exactly how I wanted him to look. He is a Dalmatian. They waved this full warranty *** in front of my face and me like an *** I believed them.

They promised that the puppy was perfectly healthy. The warranty was supposed to last a year. well after a couple of months the puppy's stomach began to swell up. i thought it was parasites so I took him to the vet. The vet said he had a heart murmur and that he could not digest sodium so his stomach began to swell.

I went back to Petland and asked them what there warranty would cover since the sickness is congenital. They basically said I was screwed that they were not responsible. They sold me a sick Dog and they didn't feel they were responsible! Their warranty is not worth ***.

The good news is the puppy is doing fine. I am keeping him on medications and on a special diet.

Sadly he still has the heart murmur but not like Petland would care.

Monetary Loss: $650.

Location: Plainfield, Illinois

This place is horrible. Dogs are made to live in wire cages with little or no cushioning and have to live next to their own ***. This place needs to be shut down.

We went to Petland in Las Vegas, Nevada on with no intent to purchase a puppy. However, as we were browsing, this beautiful little Papillion puppy caught our eye.

We visited with her for an extended period of time as well as questioned the employees about the puppies. We had heard that places like these get their puppies from puppy mills, but found it hard to believe that she was one of them. She was very clean and seemed to be extremely happy and playful. The employee ensured us that the stores puppies were healthy and came from private and reputable breeders and that each was researched and recommended by the USDA and AKC as well as that they are periodically visited in order to keep their license.

The following she had greenish colored puss in her eyes as well as a visible worm problem, as she had gone to the bathroom in her crate overnight. We took her to the vet that Petland stated the animal had to be check by that morning, less than 12 hours after purchasing Bella. At West Charlston Animal Hospital, in Las Vegas, Nevada, they examined Bella and determined that she had an eye infection, which he provided us with drops for, as well as an obvious worm infestation. A fecal parasite exam was completed and determined that Bella also suffers from Giardia, which she was also prescribed medication for.

The vaccinations that we were told have been given to Bella prior to purchasing her were not administered by a vet and cannot be proven. The health record that was provided has small writing stating that โ€œIndicated vaccine(s)/treatment(s) were administered by the breeder prior to purchase of the dog by Hunte Corporationโ€, who is listed as the distributor on the pet profile. Additionally, Petland stated that the puppy was current on vaccinations, which is not the case, due to the fact that we purchased her 5 and a half weeks after she was allegedly vaccinated. Therefore, she not been properly vaccinated while under the care of Petland, and could have been exposed to many illnesses.

Bella was also advertised to us to be AKC registered and excellent breeding quality. After further review of her AKC paperwork, we have determined that her father was unregistered with the AKC, and was only given an AKC number for identification purposes. There is no proof that this puppy is pure bred, and therefore is not AKC breeding quality as promised.

Bella has had health issues since birth, which the Petland employee stated were all โ€œcommon with toy breedsโ€.

After further research, we have found that the Open Fontanel and Inguinal hernia repair that she had were likely due to hereditary issues with her parents. These dogs should not be breeding and should have been fixed. Additionally, at the time of Bellas inguinal hernia repair, she should have also been fixed, in order to prevent her from reproducing, which could not only result in puppies with similar issues, but could also result in health problems and even death if Bella were to ever be pregnant. Bella will need to have another surgery in order to be spayed, which should have been done at the time of her last surgery.

However, being spayed, the breeder would not have been able to sell her for as much money. Petland did not provide us with any veterinary information regarding this surgery, and there are no visible scars on Bellas stomach. Therefore, we are not sure whether or not this surgery was actually performed to correct this painful and dangerous health problem.

I called Midway Veterinary Clinic in Neosho, Missouri, which is the vet listed on Bellaโ€™s paperwork as the vet that did her surgery, microchip and vaccinations. The employee stated that she did not have Travis Fanning (the breeder) in her system and that even if she did, I would need to contact him to have her records released to me.

Although it appears that it will be expensive to look after Bella, we do not want to get rid of her. We cannot imagine putting this poor puppy through any more than she has already been through and intend on giving her the best life possible. However, it is quite distressing knowing that we have purchased a dog from a puppy mill and supported this horrible industry, and plan to do anything in our power to stop this from happening to these innocent animals.

If you have any information on puppy mills, Petland, Hunte Corporation or Travis and Betty Fanning I would love to see it! Please visit me on Facebook at: facebook.com/DontBuyFromPuppyMills

I bought my little Morkie puppy three weeks ago at Petland in Roundlake. She's positively adorable.

Of course I am only at three weeks. So far no issues with her except she's teething. One thing I will say though, is that they do try to sell you a bunch of things you don't need to get.

But other than that, my pup is ok. I will update as time goes on.

I am so glad your Morkie worked out ok for you. I fell in loves with a Morkie there and she got sick and wouldn't eat.

I had to take her back within the 48 hours because A) I couldn't feed her through a syringe anymore and B) that story they tell you about them being hypoallergenic is not true. My daughter was so stuffed up after being with her for 24 hours.

Maybe the Petland in Las Vegas is entirely different than those in other states, but my experience with this store is very positive.

For Christmas my boyfriend told me that as a gift, I was allowed to get a puppy. After days of research I found an adorable little Morkie for sale at Petland. After doing extensive research on the breed, we went down to see her. She was full of life, happy to be with people and cute as a button. She can home with us the next day.

The only problem I had with the store, was that they told us she had a clean bill of health from their in-store vet, but she coughed ever so often. Worried, we took her (Casey) to the free vet visit and they told us she had kennel cough, but it was treatable. Petland covered the cost of the medications (two months worth of pills and cough syrup) and the several check ups she had after.

Casey is now a very healthy and lively 6 month old puppy. We often take her back to the store to buy treats, toys and food, and the employees are always delighted to see her. They cared for her and still do as far as I am concerned.

SUCKER!! HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR IT ON "SALE"?

"Please know now that puppies from ANY pet store are from puppy mills, and most likely sick" *er wrong*

Petland at least, I can not vouche for other stores, but working in the national kennel managment for Petland Canada, and US I can gauruntee you that our animals do not come from mills, they come from local and regional breeders (sometimes national), whom are inspected by Petland quarterly to ensure that not only are the animals needs met but EXCEEDED. And if the breeder does not meet Petlands high standard, they are discontinued as a supplier, and if they do not meet basic requirements, they are also reported to authorities.

Go do some research. (and no Animal rights activist propoganda doesnt count)

I bought a ferret from Petland located at 8800 W. Charleston Blvd.,Suite #3,Las Vegas, NV 89117,702-949-**** because he was on sale.

He was absolutely beautiful, although a little bit lethargic. They waved this full warranty crap in front of my face and me like an idiot I believed them.We left Petland and took him directly to the Vet, where we spent an additional $50 having all the tests run for parasites and so on. I woke up the next morning and he was DEAD. We called Petland, they said bring him in and they would make it right. When we got there it was a completely different story.

They refused to exchange it for another Ferret. They refused to give us our money back. And then they told us to have the Ferret autopsied, and theyre vet, at our expense. More than $200.

The vet wouldn't autopsy him because he had been dead more than 12 hours. Petland told us we were screwed, and if we wanted our money back to take them to court. We didn't even have the ferret for 24 hours. He was a birthday gift, and holding a dead ferret for my birthday was NOT my idea of a good time.

I was hysterical, they told us they would take care of us then they called security to usher us out of the store. Our entire experience was heartbreaking. Their warranty is not worth the paper it was written on.

I urge everyone to stay far far away from this store at 8800 W. Charleston Blvd.,Suite #3 Las Vegas, NV 89117, 702-949-****.

I am really upset right now that all of you with complaints are bashing the entire company. I happen to work for Petland and I was very skeptical when I first started.

However, I can assure you that the owners of my store care very much about our animals. Yes, we have a puppy with a cold here and there, but let me tell you, they get better awfully quick. Our kennel staff takes great care and pride in the treatment of our puppies. Any issue arising is quickly handled in a manner that satisfies the customer.

Please think about the messages you are sending before you bash the entire company. There are some of us out there that really do care.

And, whether you believe me or not, our puppies DO NOT come from puppy mills. Do some actual research before making your claim.

I would like people to know that I worked for PetLand for almost a year. The manager before me left because of the owner's business practices and so did I.

PetLand is a franchise. Each owner chooses the contracts, warrenties and so forth. They have the ability to dictate the "quality control" in all sales. I will say, the owner of the store I worked for was very much into the money aspect of the business and not the welfare of the animals. This caused many issues with his managers, and he went through 6 in a year. He went bankrupt and the franchise went up for sale.

The new owner is said to be making drastic changes in how the store is to be run, including not only sales of animals, but adoptions of rescue pets.

I think that the quality of the store really depends on the owners.

Just because a store sells an animal doesn't mean they can see the future. Some genetic issues come up later and are breed specific. Can they make an effort to sell the healthiest animals possible? Yes they can by limiting the amount of animals, having a proper quarentine unit and having a qualified Vet on call.

Please remember, people who sell in the paper can also sell sick animals to unsuspecting people. Some have even been arrested for running puppy mills.

I am not trying to say that is is better to purchase from a store or from a private person. I am saying things do happen. Sometimes employees are tied by the actions of the owners.

Here's hoping that the new owners of this PetLand make an effort to provide educated staff and healthy animals.

I used to work there and I can say that not all of the puppies were sick, and though the "managers" may know some of what they are talking about, the regular employees just learned what to say to sell a dog. Back when I worked there, we only got $5 per dog sold.

I know...commision on selling dogs...CRAZY! Right!?! Well they hire young people that are sadly just trying to make a buck. Well I am not even sure where all the money goes when people buy dogs from them but it deffinately didn't go to the little people that worked there.

I remember a cocker-poo that I absolutely fell in love with and it sold when the price dropped down to like $199.00. I do not remember if they still gave him all the stuff from the package or not but the people that bought him looked like they just wanted the cheapest dog their. That hurt me because I loved that dog but I couldn't refuse the sale because "Petland" was getting money. I could say not to buy from petland but I have seen worse places to buy a dog.

Also, you could always rescue a pet. Petsmart does "Adopt a pet", even though they may not have a warranty plan and they may get sick, you could keep it from being put to sleep!

I bought my American Eskimo at Petland in Round Lake Beach, IL around June 28th. They told me that I get a free exam with the dog and I have to take it to their vet within 3 days.

I took Mandy, my new puppy that is 10 weeks old to their vet in Gurnee on June 30th. The vet had asked me if there was anthing unusual with the puppy and I told her that I noticed that Mandy was sneezing alot. The vet informed me that on June 19th, which was her last pet visit, she had a cold. Now it is July 8th and she still is sick.

Not only is Mandy sick but she has now spead this horrible cold to my other 2 dogs. Princess which is a Sheltie, she has been sneezing so much and Jordan, which is a Chow, Huskie, Lab mix is coughing up so much flem and also is sneezing really bad. My boyfriend called the little ***, Adam that is a so called manager on July 7th and explained the problem. Adam said that he will not be responsible for our other dogs.My boyfriend said to him that you shouldn't be selling sick dogs.

That *** *** Adam told my boyfriend that we should keep our dogs seperated and to be smart about it. No, dumb ***, you should be smart about it and not sell sick animals. Hey, there's an idea ADAM!!! I then called Corporate office and spoke to stupid lazy, Lacy.

She informed me that she couldn't do anything about it. By the way here's there phone number if you don't feel like getting anywhere with them. LOL 800-221-****. I asked her, "then why are you the corporate office if you can't so anything about it." So she gets paid for nothing, cuz she is useless just like the rest of them.

She told me that each store has there own owner and his name is Bill Mitchell. I called there and of coarse he isn't in. Like that doesn't suprise me. The girl that answered the phone says he comes and goes.

Go figure!! Why would the owner be there if little fag Adam can handle the store for him.I don't want to take back my dog, Mandy. I want these *** to pay for my pet visit. Mandy was $1,000.00 and now I am going to have to spend another $600.00 on Vet visits for all 3 dogs.

I will show up at Petland and shove the bill in Adam's *** and tell him that I demand for him to pay this bill and if he doesn't I will hit every local news station there is out there. I will also stand in front of Petland with a huge *** sign with a picture of Mandy and say Petland sells sick puppies. Let's see if they sell another sick puppy again.

I will have there front doors closed so quickly, they won't know what to do. Good luck Petland cuz here I come.

Please know now that puppies from ANY pet store are from puppy mills, and most likely sick!

Thank you for sharing your dal's story and maybe spread it around elsewhere to raise awareness of the mills.

I'm glad he's okay!

You're the *** for buying a family member because they were on sale. Of course he was sick, they're trying to make a profit and medication costs money.

Shame on YOU!

The fact that every person on here that is saying they work for petland has to say i assure you the pets are healthy ect ect. WRONG!

I work in rescue and cannot tell you the number of adult dogs that are gotten rid of when they grow up from pet-land. Petland will not give breeder info out because the puppies are shipped across the country and you can't even visit the "breeder". I have been given phone numbers that don't even work for the "breeder". The adult dogs that i am talking about that end up in rescue are very messed up when it comes to health and you can tell by just looking at the dog that it was either inbred or bred with poor parents who were not health checked or to AKC standards.

The usda can inspect kennels yes, but if they find dead puppies or adults they write it on a piece of paper. The USDA does not call the cops because it is wrong they go about their day. Also petland gets the puppies in awful condition. They groom them, shoot them full of meds like dewormer ect and push them onto the floor to be purchased by people who are idiots!

They will also say they don't have any more puppies in back but indeed they do! They have puppies that are too young to be away from their mothers in back ready to fill a spot when one gets purchased. How else do you think they have puppies that are just at the perfectly right age to be away from the mothers to sell? A responsible breeder who breeds dogs and shows them and cares about making the breed better and more healthy will not breed their dogs to be designer mixes, will not sell their puppies to just anyone,or ship their puppies across the country!

PERIOD! Also why do you think that there is so many different breeds in the little windows? They separate litters to try and sell them at different locations around the country. Just look at Petland's different locations websites.

They are selling shiba inus all over the place. Also a lot of times other puppies in the litter did not survive due to conditions in these so called kennels, transport,or genetic issues. The Hunt corporation transports these puppies all over, it is normal for some to die along the way. The breeders just look at it as a small loss in profit.

So you tell me if that sounds like a responsible breeder, or if Petland must have a good relationship with them and inspects the kennels themselves? It is a joke. It isn't against the law to tell a lie as a sales associate, you can't go to jail for word of mouth. Plain and simple.

Please don't say you've done your research on the breed extensively, because if you knew anything about dogs or the dog world you would not support people who confine animals to cages for their entire lives producing an unhealthy amount of puppies in *** and urine, being fed the cheapest *** that exists for dog food. When you buy a puppy from a pet store you are saying that it is ok for your puppies adult parents to suffer their entire life in a cage with no exercise or positive human interaction. Those who say their puppy from petland is healthy i dare you to do enough digging to find out where your puppies parents are from and then go take a little visit. Then come back here and post that they are wonderfully healthy and groomed and live inside and have toys and run around in a backyard that actually has grass and not a hill billy for an owner.

Look into how petland started. In the states notorious for puppy mills. Do real research people. The highest concentration of Petlands that still exist are in areas where the dumbest people reside.

Check it out on google maps and look at the entire country. There are literally clusters where uneducated people reside. Most animal shelters do home inspections to make sure the puppy is going to a good home. Does Petland?

NO. So all of you petland employees who claim nothing wrong or bad goes on and that the kennels where the puppies come from are wonderful, you are either a very morally unbalanced person, or a dumb ***! People go get a puppy from a shelter, they are more healthy than what you will be getting from a pet store. Or go to a breeder who actually shows their dogs, and whose dogs have names.

It will be cheaper than what they charge at Petland and healthier. Every puppy bought from petland will cause a need for another to be bred.
